This was a house situated in Sarria, Barcelona which had been divided into two dwellings, one on the ground floor and the other on the floor above.

The design brief involved a complete restoration of the house. We had to reinforce the structure, the floors and update the fittings and furnishings in order to produce two homes each one of 50m2 with a small terrace and an external laundry room. Each residence comprises a living/dining room, an open plan kitchen, a complete bathroom and two bedrooms.

The aim of the project was to conserve the traditional spirit of the old village house and at the same time create light – for this reason we opted for porcelain tiles (20x20)in stone grey for their similarity to concrete flooring, we painted the walls in clay white and the door frames and part of the furniture in whitewashed pine.

The exterior woodwork was created with chestnut brown wood with oxidised iron bars and the outside woodwork looking out over the interior patios in whitewashed pine. We thought it interesting to retrieve part of the old stone walls and to make them more prominant by using lighting. Likewise we decided to keep the outline of the staircase imprinted on the wall to leave a trace of the past.
